Literature Text

"You know I'm sorry, right?"

Its white fluff fur trailed behind it as the puppy moved quickly, chasing a crow across the sky. They weaved between obstacles of grey cotton ball fuzz as they played overhead. It wasn't long before the cute dog had dissipated to join the mounting storm as it travelled east toward the town. Rain was definitely coming that afternoon.

Kai pulled himself up into a sitting position, curling his legs underneath himself as he sat with his back to the warming sun. The tension was massaged from his muscles, his eyes slipping part way closed as the comforting warmth lulled him toward sleep. With lethargic movements, he moved to lay on his stomach in the long grass of the unkept park.

As he dozed in the afternoon light, his mind replayed the events of the  previous night like a movie projector onto a black screen. He knew that he hadn't meant for anything to happen... and it was the alcohol and energy drinks that were to blame really. Sober, he would never have laid a hand on his oldest friend's sort-of-ex boyfriend.  They had never really been together. Okay, well, they had but no one had known. They hadn't hidden it but they didn't tell anyone that they were together. Of course, Kai had known. He always knew. There was nothing they could keep from each other; even if they should feel so inclined.

It was the alcohol.

It was always the alcohol. And the energy drinks. Sure, he could be up all night without the horrible sluggishness the drinks otherwise brought on but the caffeine did not stop the disconnection; he couldn't think straight.

But it was all no excuse for touching Scotty… even if he didn't belong to Kai's friend anymore. As far as it had gone – the kisses…on his knees in the bathroom stall – would have been nothing. Would have… had it not been Scotty.

He sat up sharply, flashes of white before his eyes as the light was allowed to flood violently, with no warning, into his dilated pupils. They searched about the open thatch of park lawn, reorientating his locale, before resting on the boy lying close by. His eyes were closed but he was awake.

"You know I'm sorry, right?" Kai asked his dear friend.
This is kinda short but working with just the one character isn't easy...but this is good practice.

Written for #YouAsTheNarrator
Monthly prompt July: Remorse and an Apology
Character: Kai 'Ari' McKenzie - [link]

Does this story make sense? Is it clear what has happened and everyone's relationships with each other? Should I add more depth?

I thought the message/realtionship b/w everybody was clear. You can tell that Kai is remorseful and really wants to be forgiven, even in such a short piece.
